Moon musings (2)

It seems

the moon is in a mischievous mood,

playing games with me,

a glint in her full eye.

This night

She swiftly slides behind between the clouds,

doing a ghostly galleon impression

with ominous stare across her dark terrain,

her movement all illusory, of course,

as clouds blow by.

This morning

she is simply still,

hanging high, wide, round,

merely a stencil of herself,

silver white against sky blue,

self effaced in her translucency.

This next night

I see her yet again

not just reflecting now, but mimicking her brighter sister,

peeping out from cumulus cloud

to imitate a well known weather symbol,

recast in grey and gentle gilted glow.

Soon

she dips low to the hill and behind a tree,

her fullness softened at the edges,

with a wink for me as she moves on

to catch the eye of the next moon-watcher,

her changeable guise a gift

to those who look up to see.
